Weekly UPK Board
About a year ago, there was a debate over whether high scores acheived on the dreamboard and other well-known low-3bv boards should be accepted. It was decided that such scores couldn't count because they were achieved with UPK, which stands for Unfair Prior Knowledge. With this in mind, I have come up with the idea of holding a weekly contest to COMPLETELY MASTER low-3bv, or otherwise easy intermediate and expert boards (created by rearranging a few mines in each board). This contest will require not only skill, but also a good memory.
Submission Rules: One new expert and one new intermediate board will be released each AR period. Contestants will be allowed to practice playing the boards as much as they wish until the end of that AR period (every other Friday at 4 PM Eastern Daylight Time (20:00 UTC/Greenwich Time)). Players must submit their scores (to the nearest hundredth) at or before this time through my guestbook, Damien's guestbook, or via e-mail: arjadre_mines-UPK@yahoo.com . (Screenshots and 3bv/s stats are unnecessary.) Scores may not be submitted via any other means. I will publish the UPK ranking at the same time I create the new boards.
To play: Open Rodrigo's Clone. Press F5 or open the options window from the game menu. Select 'cheat mode'. Under Board, select Custom. Set the width at 30, height at 16, and mines at zero for the expert board, and set the width at 16, height at 16, and mines at zero for the intermediate board. In the lower left corner, check the Show mines option, and close the options window. Then, for the expert and intermediate boards, copy the mine positions from the website, clicking on the board to place mines. When done placing mines, open the options menu and click on save board. Name and save the board. Then close out of the Clone. Reopen it. Open the options menu and choose load board. Choose the board that you just saved and play it. To replay the board, open the options menu and choose load board to open the board. DO NOT press F3 to replay because this could allow individual mines to be shifted. Rules: Players will be ranked by the sum of their times. Any players unable to complete the expert board will be ranked by their intermediate times in the last spots of the ranking. You have unlimited tries. Please do not turn on any cheat options during the game, as this would be considered cheating. You are on the honor method not to cheat...
